People in Halloween attire walk past a large, illuminated yellow "ZOO BOO" sign with a green-lit forest background at night.

Looking for a Halloween event in Houston that’s fun for the whole family? The Houston Zoo Boo Extended Hours event is back — and it’s full of glowing pumpkins, and magical nighttime fun under the lights!

We visited this year’s Zoo Boo after dark and absolutely loved how the Houston Zoo transforms at nighttime. It’s the perfect mix of Halloween excitement and family-friendly fun — all in one unforgettable evening.

In this post, we’ll share everything you need to know before you go: tickets, times, what to expect, and family tips to make the most of your night.

🦇 What Is Houston Zoo Boo Extended Hours?

In October, the Houston Zoo becomes a festive Halloween wonderland. During the day, visitors can enjoy the regular Zoo Boo activities, but when the sun goes down, Zoo Boo after dark begins — with extended hours, glowing lights, and a touch of nighttime magic.

Families can explore, Halloween decorations, and twinkling light displays. It’s designed for all ages — spooky enough to feel festive, but not too scary for little ones.

🎥 Watch Our Visit

We filmed our family’s full Houston Zoo Boo 2025 After Dark experience to show you what it’s really like! From glowing pumpkins to light shows and nighttime zoo fun — you’ll see why this event is a must-do.

👻 Highlights of Zoo Boo After Hours

Here’s what you can expect when you visit:

💡 Family Tips for Visiting

  • Free Parking: Free zoo parking is available! We had no problem finding a spot during our visit, but the lot can fill up quickly on busy nights.

  • Check Last Entry Time: Closing time and last entry time aren’t the same — double-check before your visit so you don’t miss out!

  • Dress Up! Costumes are encouraged for kids and adults (keep it family-friendly!) — just skip masks that cover the full face.

  • Wear Comfy Shoes: There’s plenty of walking, especially if you want to explore every light display.

  • Stay Hydrated: Even after dark, October evenings in Houston can stay warm. Bring a water bottle — the zoo has refill stations throughout the grounds.

  • Bring a Stroller or Wagon: If you’re visiting with younger kids, the nighttime walk can feel long by the end — strollers or wagons are definitely a plus!

🧡 Why We Loved It

Zoo Boo Extended Hours is everything we love about Halloween — festive, colorful, and family-centered. It’s an event where kids can wear costumes, possibly see some animals, and experience a bit of Halloween “spookiness” without any scares.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly Halloween event in Houston, this one should definitely be on your list.
