5 Family-Favorite Fall & Halloween Activities in the Houston Area
From fall fun on the farm and pumpkin patches to incredible free Halloween displays, hands-on museums, and more, the Houston area has plenty of ways for families to celebrate the season!
Over the years, we’ve experienced quite a few fall and Halloween activities with our kids. While there are still plenty more we’d love to check out, these five are some of our family favorites—and they’re all activities we’d happily visit again!
Houston Fall Tip: Don’t let the word fall fool you—it can still be very hot around Houston, especially earlier in the season! We’ve visited outdoor fall attractions when the midday temperatures were still quite warm. If you’re heading to one of the farms or other outdoor activities, bring plenty of water, consider sun protection and check the weather before you go.

1. Blessington Farms
Blessington Farms is one of those fall outings where the pumpkin patch is only part of the fun. When our family visited, there was so much for the kids to do that we easily spent hours enjoying the farm.
Our kids bounced, went down slides, played in the sand, held chickens, rode the Barrel Train and much more! Rather than stopping by just to grab a pumpkin picture, this was a place where they could actually play, explore and enjoy being on the farm.
For the 2026 season, Blessington Farms lists more than 20 activities in its Farm Funland, including Slide Mountain, a Jump Pad, Barrel Train, Chicken Hut, farm animals, hay wagon rides and more.
The 2026 fall season runs from September 19 through November 22. Pumpkins are available for purchase, along with optional activities such as pumpkin painting and camel feeding.
There was plenty to keep our kids busy when we visited, and it’s one of the Houston-area fall farm experiences we’d happily do again.

2. Froberg’s Farm
You’ve got to love a classic corn maze in the fall, and Froberg’s Farm delivers exactly that! The corn maze was one of the highlights for our family when we visited during the fall festival, along with plenty of other seasonal fun around the farm.
There’s just something about wandering through a giant corn maze with the kids that feels like a classic fall activity—even if Houston’s temperatures haven’t quite gotten the fall memo yet!
For 2026, Froberg’s Fall Festival runs from September 18 through November 8. The annual corn maze returns with a new design, along with the pumpkin patch and other seasonal activities. The corn maze is included with Fall Festival admission, while some additional activities require tokens on weekends.
This is another outdoor activity where I’d pay attention to the forecast and consider what time of day you visit. We’ve experienced some very warm fall days at Houston-area farms, so come prepared with water and sun protection when needed.

3. Nightmare on Candy Cane Lane
If you’re looking for a free Halloween activity in the Houston area, Nightmare on Candy Cane Lane is a fun one to add to your list! Located along Robinson Road in the Quail Valley area of Missouri City, this neighborhood goes all out for Halloween with elaborate decorations and displays.
Our family visited before Halloween and loved seeing just how many homes participated. We drove slowly through the neighborhood to see the displays from our car, while plenty of other visitors chose to walk and explore on foot.
It can get busy, especially as Halloween gets closer. Keep in mind that this is an actual residential neighborhood rather than a ticketed attraction, so drive slowly, watch carefully for people walking, and be respectful of the residents and their property while enjoying the displays.
For families looking for a free thing to do around Houston for Halloween, this is one we’d happily experience again.

4. BOO!seum at Children’s Museum Houston
Halloween at Children’s Museum Houston adds a festive twist to an already fun day with kids! During BOO!seum, the museum gets decked out in Halloween decorations, adding seasonal fun to all of the hands-on exhibits kids already love.
Our family has been members of Children’s Museum Houston for many years, and we always enjoy seeing how the museum changes for different seasons. We’ve visited while the museum was decorated for BOO!seum multiple times—sometimes dressing up with our kids and other times simply enjoying the Halloween decor during a regular museum visit.
And there’s another pretty great perk to this one during a Houston fall: air conditioning! When Houston is still holding onto summer temperatures, an indoor Halloween activity can be very welcome.
For 2026, Halloween at the BOO!seum runs from October 1–31. BOO!seum is included with general admission, and the museum is closed on Mondays. Children’s Museum Houston also has special Halloween events scheduled throughout the month, including a free Family Night on October 29 from 5–8 p.m. On Halloween, October 31, the museum will be open from 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Be sure to check the current event schedule to see what’s happening on the day you plan to visit.

5. Houston Zoo Fall Fun
The Houston Zoo has been a family favorite of ours for years! We’ve been members for many years and have visited the zoo more times than we can count. We especially love visiting during seasonal events, when there’s something a little different to experience alongside all of the animals.
Zoo Boo has been one of our favorite fall events at the zoo. The after-dark evenings have been especially fun, with Halloween decorations, light displays and costumes throughout the zoo. Being there after the sun goes down gives the entire experience a completely different feel.
For 2026: As of September, we haven’t seen Zoo Boo listed on the Houston Zoo’s current event calendar. However, there is still some Halloween fun happening at the zoo! The Spookie Fudge Stripes Safari runs from September 1 through October 31 and is a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt where families can spot striped animals around the zoo and participate in an interactive game. The activity is included with general admission and free for Houston Zoo members.

Some of Our Favorite Fall Activities Around Houston
These certainly aren’t the only fall and Halloween activities around Houston—there are so many more to experience! But these are some of the ones our family has personally enjoyed over the years and would happily visit again.
