We spotted the lighthouse on our drive home after visiting South Padre Island and decided to make one last stop to check it out. We're so glad we did! During our visit, we climbed to the top of the lighthouse, enjoyed views of Port Isabel, Laguna Madre, and South Padre Island, and explored the surrounding park.

What Is the Climb Like?
One of our favorite parts of visiting was actually the climb itself.
The lighthouse features 75 winding stairs and three short ladders as you make your way to the observation deck. We thought it was such a unique experience. As we climbed higher, the spiral staircase gradually became a little more upright before the final climb up the short ladders to reach the top.
Being able to climb inside a historic lighthouse that's been standing since 1852 was such an awesome experience. It's not something you get to do every day, and it made the visit feel even more memorable.
Our Experience Visiting Port Isabel Lighthouse
We really enjoyed visiting Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site and were definitely glad we decided to stop.
When we stepped out onto the observation deck, it was definitely windy, but the views were absolutely worth it. We loved being able to walk all the way around the lighthouse and take in the scenery from every direction. From the top, we could see Port Isabel, Laguna Madre, South Padre Island, and the surrounding area.
The kids loved climbing the lighthouse and exploring the different levels along the way. It ended up being one of those experiences we'll remember long after our trip. We also liked that it didn't take a huge amount of time, making it easy to combine with other things to do in Port Isabel before heading home.
If you're already visiting South Padre Island, we definitely think this is a stop worth making.
