🎄 Houston Zoo Lights 2025: A Magical Holiday Night Out
Houston Zoo Lights is back for the 2025 holiday season — and we visited on the very first member preview night! ✨
Even though it was November, the weather was still warm (even toasty!) throughout the evening, but that didn’t take away from the festive atmosphere. The zoo was glowing with holiday lights, themed displays, “snow” bubbles, and some really fun interactive areas for kids.
Below is our full experience plus everything you need to know before planning your visit this year.

💡 What to Expect at Houston Zoo Lights 2025
Zoo Lights is a light-focused holiday event rather than an animal-viewing experience. During our visit, almost all animal exhibits were closed — we only saw the giraffes.
But the festive displays, glowing pathways, and interactive areas definitely bring the holiday magic.
Here are the areas we loved most:
🌟 Our Favorite Areas to See

✨ 1. Neon Playground
A huge hit with families!
This is a special setup near the playground that includes:
Glowing benches
Illuminated swings
Teeter-totters
Bright neon décor
It’s colorful, fun, and great for photos.
❄️ 2. “Snow” Area

Located near the neon playground.
This “snow” is made from tiny soapy bubbles — super fun for kids, but it does leave a bit of sticky residue, so wipes are helpful.
🌺 3. Enchanted Forest

One of the most beautiful areas!
This space is less Christmas-themed and more whimsical, filled with:
Glowing butterflies
Vibrant flowers
Soft lighting
Fairy elements
It feels magical and peaceful.
🎄 4. Main Entrance Fountain
This area is absolutely gorgeous at night with glowing colors and reflections — perfect for family photos and videos.
🔥 5. S’mores Corner
S’mores kits are available for purchase (we didn’t get any this visit), and families can roast them at designated fire pits.
🚗 Parking
During preview night, parking was:
✔ Free
✔ Easy to find
✔ Close to the entrance
However, on peak nights — especially weekends and dates close to Christmas — expect higher traffic and consider arriving earlier.
🍪 Food & Drinks
Available throughout the event:
Hot cocoa
Coffee
Popcorn
Snacks
Holiday treats
S’mores kits
Lines were moderate during our visit but may get longer on peak dates.
📸 Photo Spots We Loved

The Reflection Pool
Neon playground
Enchanted Forest
Bubble “snow” area
Glowing Trees by Cypress Circle Café
So many great areas for holiday photos!

❄️ Is Houston Zoo Lights Worth It? (Our Honest Take)
Houston Zoo Lights is one of the most popular holiday traditions in Houston, and if you enjoy Christmas events, glowing displays, and festive family outings, it’s definitely a fun one to experience.
We went on member preview night, and at $12.95 per ticket, we felt it was a great value for the evening — especially with the colorful displays, seasonal areas, bubble “snow,” and the glowing pathways that made the zoo feel magical at night.
For regular nights, the pricing is higher, and it’s helpful to know ahead of time that most animal exhibits are closed during the event. Zoo Lights is designed to be a holiday light experience, not an animal-viewing evening — so set your expectations for the lights, atmosphere, and displays.
Overall, if you’re looking for a festive, family-friendly Christmas outing in Houston, Houston Zoo Lights is a fun and magical event to add to your holiday season.
