If you're looking for a hike that’s both stunning and family-friendly, Boynton Canyon Trail in Sedona, Arizona is a great option!
Why We Chose Boynton Canyon Trail
Sedona is packed with scenic trails! We typically go straight for Bell Rock (another amazing family-friendly hiking spot), but this time, we wanted to try something new. After reading tons of positive reviews, we chose Boynton Canyon—and we’re so glad we did! It offers the perfect blend of breathtaking views, shady forest sections, and manageable terrain for families.
Tips for Hiking Boynton Canyon with Kids
Here are a few things we learned along the way:
🕗 Start early: The Arizona sun can get intense, even in spring and fall. We didn’t follow our own advice here and hit the trail mid-day on a weekend—it got a bit toasty, and the trails (and parking areas!) were crowded. If you can, start earlier in the morning for cooler temps and a more peaceful experience.
💧 Bring plenty of water and snacks: There are no water sources on the trail (at least none we noticed), and it’s a good distance for little legs. Keep everyone happy and hydrated with lots of breaks.
🪨 Take breaks and enjoy the views: There are plenty of natural “rest stops” with big rocks and amazing lookout points—perfect for taking a breather, having a snack, or snapping some photos.
Ending the Day at Cave Springs Campground
After the hike, we headed to our campsite (Site A03) at Cave Springs Campground in Oak Creek Canyon. This spot is a gem—shaded by tall pines, surrounded by nature, and just what we needed after a day of hiking.
