Our family of five spent two nights at Lake Dakwa Lodge, and even after three days packed with fun, the kids still weren't ready to leave! Here's a look at what made our stay so memorable.

Lake Dakwa Lodge: A Lakefront Vacation Rental in North Georgia
Located in a gated community in Ellijay, Lake Dakwa Lodge is a five-bedroom, four-bathroom vacation rental that sleeps up to 17 guests! Whether you're planning a family getaway, bringing the grandparents along, or traveling with another family, there's plenty of room for everyone.
One of the coolest things about Lake Dakwa Lodge is just how much there is to do without leaving the property. Between the indoor playground, game room, outdoor activities, and lake access, there's plenty to keep the whole family entertained throughout your stay!
Inside This Cozy Georgia Mountain Cabin
One of the first things we noticed when walking into Lake Dakwa Lodge was the beautiful view of the surrounding forest and lake! The large windows let in plenty of natural light, and the cozy decor makes the whole place feel warm and welcoming.
The main living area has plenty of comfortable seating, making it a great spot to hang out together after a day of exploring. One of our favorite features was the glass fireplace right in the middle of the room. Just twist the timer, and you've got a fire going without having to build one yourself!
The kitchen opens up to the living area and has everything you need to prepare meals during your stay, including dishes, cookware, and a coffee maker with coffee supplies.
You'll also find some nice extras throughout the lodge, including beautifully finished bathrooms and a washer and dryer, which are always handy when traveling with kids!
And if you love a good view, you're in luck! The lake views aren't limited to the living room. You can also enjoy them from the primary suite, the decks, and even a little window in the basement room with the indoor playground!
Bedrooms and Sleeping Arrangements: Room for the Whole Family
Planning a getaway with the grandparents, extended family, or family friends? Lake Dakwa Lodge has five bedrooms spread across three levels, giving everyone plenty of room to spread out and enjoy their own space.
One thing we loved was how beautifully decorated all the bedrooms were! Each room had its own cozy, inviting feel, so even with a larger group, everyone gets a lovely space to settle into.
Main-Level Bedrooms
On the main floor, you'll find two charming bedrooms that feel cozy and inviting, along with a shared bathroom conveniently located near the kitchen and living area.
These rooms are a great choice for anyone who prefers to stay close to the main gathering spaces without having to go up and down the stairs throughout the day.
Upstairs Bedrooms and Primary Suite
Upstairs, you'll find two more beautifully decorated bedrooms, each with its own attached bathroom and a little extra space to relax.
The primary suite was definitely a standout in the lodge! Along with the beautiful bedroom, there's a little sitting area with a sofa and TV right beside large windows overlooking the lake. Add in a desk and its own coffee station, and it almost feels like a little getaway within your getaway!
And the bathroom is just as beautiful! It features gorgeous stonework, vessel sinks, a skylight, a spacious shower with two showerheads, and a separate soaking tub. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a little relaxation after a busy day of family fun!
Lower-Level Bunk Room
Downstairs is where things get extra fun, and this level was an absolute standout for our kids! When you head downstairs, you'll enter the game room, with the fifth bedroom tucked around the back.
But this isn't your typical bunk room! Along with two sets of bunk beds, it's also an indoor playground, complete with a slide, climbing wall, and monkey bars!
There's also a bathroom on this level, making it a great setup for families with kids.
A Georgia Airbnb With an Indoor Playground and Game Room
If there's one area of Lake Dakwa Lodge that our kids couldn't get enough of, it was the downstairs! Between the indoor playground and a game room packed with activities, there was always something fun to do.
And one of the best parts? Having so many indoor activities means there's plenty to keep everyone entertained, even when the weather doesn't cooperate!
An Indoor Playground in the Bunk Room
Having an indoor playground right inside a bedroom is such a fun feature, especially for families with younger kids! Our kids absolutely loved having their own space to climb, slide, and play whenever they wanted.
A Game Room With Something for Everyone
The game room is packed with fun for kids of all ages, and grown-ups too! There's a pool table, foosball, skee-ball, basketball arcade, and even a Pac-Man arcade game.
You'll also find a Nintendo Switch with a TV and comfortable seating. Our kids especially loved playing Mario Kart together during our stay!
And it's not all games! There's a separate comfy couch and TV area for watching movies, along with a dining table, toys, and a drawing whiteboard for some quieter activities.
Whether you're up for a little friendly competition or just want to hang out together, there's plenty of room for everyone to have fun!
Outdoor Adventures at This Family-Friendly Ellijay Cabin
If you thought the inside of Lake Dakwa Lodge was fun, just wait until you head outside! There's even more to explore, from slides and climbing walls to beautiful lakeview decks and outdoor spaces where the whole family can hang out.
Lakeview Decks, Slides, and Climbing Walls
Lake Dakwa Lodge has two decks overlooking the lake, with plenty of space to sit back, relax, and enjoy the views. There's even a hot tub on the upper deck for those who want to soak and unwind!
But the lower deck has a fun surprise for the kids! There's a tunnel slide and an outdoor climbing wall that add a little extra adventure to the backyard.
Follow the pathways farther down the property, and you'll find even more places to explore, including outdoor play areas and a really cool lounge net overlooking the lake and mountains. It's a fun spot to kick back and enjoy the scenery!
Firepit and Outdoor Movie Nights
There's also a firepit area where everyone can gather around for a relaxing evening after a day of adventures.
And how fun would an outdoor movie night be? Lake Dakwa Lodge has a covered deck with an outdoor projector, giving families another way to enjoy time together without leaving the property.
Kayaking, Pedal Boating, and Fishing on Lake Dakwa
One of our favorite parts of staying at Lake Dakwa Lodge was having the lake right in the backyard! A pathway leads down to the water, where you can enjoy kayaking, pedal boating, and catch-and-release fishing.
And the best part? You don't have to bring your own equipment! The lodge provides kayaks, paddles, life jackets, a pedal boat, and fishing gear for guests to use during their stay.
Family Kayaking and Pedal Boating
We had so much fun exploring Lake Dakwa together! The calm water made it a wonderful spot for our two older kids, Westin and Aubrey, to head out on their very first solo kayaking adventures.
Kevin got out on a kayak too, while I joined Carter for his very first ride in a pedal boat!
With enough equipment for all five of us to enjoy the lake, it was easy to spend time out on the water together. And with the beautiful mountain scenery all around, it was such a fun way to enjoy the outdoors!
As with any lake activity, be sure to supervise children around the water and wear life jackets when boating.
Catch-and-Release Fishing
If your family enjoys fishing, Lake Dakwa is another great spot to spend some time outdoors! The lodge provides fishing gear, so you can head down to the water and try your luck at catching a fish.

After spending three fun-filled days at Lake Dakwa Lodge, we can confidently say this is a great spot for a family getaway!
Our kids had an absolute blast, and we loved having so many activities right at the property while still enjoying the cozy cabin atmosphere and beautiful lake views.
